Making sustainableinclusiveaccessiblegreendata-backed integrated
transport happen.

For ten years, TUMI has brought together the people, the knowledge and the money that sustainable transport needs. Our new identity reflects who we have become — and the scale of what comes next.

Change you can see.

Ten years of impact
TUMI is strongest when progress becomes tangible: a safer journey, a stronger institution, a funded plan, a bus line that opens.
  • A school run that children can make alone.

Children couldn't get to school safely. Street vendors, parents and children redesigned the roads around their school.

  • Scaling from pilots to more than 100,000 e-buses.

Cities knew what they wanted but could not procure it. With TUMI, cities built roadmaps, skills and deals.
A city network of more than 100 cities
  • A collection route that no longer wears you down.

TUMI Impact in Numbers

  • €0 bn+
invested in sustainable transport through KfW
  • 0+
electric buses prepared for the road
  • Over 0
practitioners trained through in-person and digital formats
  • More than 0 tons per year
of expected CO2 savings alone for projects committed in 2025
  • „TUMI is a strategic alliance – one that has significantly strengthened our canton, through cooperation, knowledge and action on important programmes we have implemented here in Cuenca, including E-Cuenca and, above all, the safe connections for our cyclists.“

A new identity for a broader mission.

    A new Chapter

When TUMI started, the argument still had to be won. Sustainable transport was a proposition, and much of the work was persuasion. That argument is largely settled. What holds cities back now is different: the knowledge sits in the wrong places, the right people never meet, and good plans stall somewhere between the workshop and the budget line.

That argument is largely settled. What holds cities back now is different: the knowledge sits in the wrong places, the right people never meet, and good plans stall somewhere between the workshop and the budget line.

The work has widened with it. Buses and bike lanes, yes — and freight, rail, and the corridors that carry goods across borders. Cities stay at the centre, but the systems they depend on reach far beyond city limits.

That is why TUMI is evolving from the Transformative Urban Mobility Initiative to the Transport and Urban Mobility Initiative. Our people-centred purpose stays. Our scope and our ambition grow.

    What stays

    A human-centred approach
    Global collaboration
    Open knowledge, free to use
    The partner network
    Practical support, not only advice

    What grows

    The view beyond city boundaries
    Stronger regional and corridor perspectives
Closer links to finance and implementation
A clear entry point for industry
    Freight, rail and long-distance transport

    Together, we make transport happen.

    The TUMI Network
TUMI is a standing alliance of eleven institutions working on the same projects — funded by Germany’s development ministry, implemented by GIZ and KfW. Between them they cover what a transport project actually needs: research and data, city networks, technical standards, and the money to build.
What should TUMI make happen in the next ten years?
    • „As TUMI marks ten years, ITF looks forward to continuing our collaboration — helping cities scale up sustainable and resilient mobility, and championing the leadership of women and young people in shaping transport's future.“
      Young Tae Kim
      Secretary General, International Transport Forum
Brings global transport policy reach and the annual ITF Summit platform to TUMI's network.
    • „Our cities are where the climate crisis is felt every day, and transport is one of the systems that can help change their course. In the next ten years, I hope TUMI keeps pushing mobility to the heart of climate action.“
      Sana' Khasawneh
Youth Ambassador on Inclusion and Sustainable Transport, TUMI
Brings the voice and lived experience of young people to TUMI's work on inclusion.
    • „The next decade of TUMI can be about making inclusive, high-quality electric public transport the norm, not the exception. Through TUMI's network, we can continue providing cities with the knowledge, partnerships and support they need to make that a reality for all.“
      Jacob Mason
      Senior Director, Global Program, ITDP
Brings e-bus deployment and accessibility expertise, tested across 120+ cities, to TUMI's projects.

    How the new TUMI looks.

    The new Look
A new position needs a new face. The identity keeps what people already recognise — the name, the acronym, the sense of movement — and changes what no longer fits a network working across cities, regions and corridors.
    • Colour

We reduced the palette. The identity now leads with a single warm orange instead of a broad set of colours — fewer colours read as more professional. But reduction should not cost warmth: TUMI is about connections between people, so the one colour we kept is a warm one.
    • Imagery

Photography carries movement. We work consistently with motion blur — a tram pulling out, a street in flow — so cities look the way they actually feel: never static.
    • Typography & White Space

Professionalism also means room to breathe: much more white space, used deliberately. The type mix pairs a serious, grown-up serif for headlines with DM Sans for body copy — the typeface we carried over from the existing CI.
    • Key Visual

At the centre sits the key visual: the simplest possible notation of movement. It is built from many individual strokes pointing in many directions — because that is what keeps a city moving. A system in motion is never one big gesture, it is thousands of small ones.

    From knowledge to action.

    What TUMI does
Sustainable transport rarely fails for lack of ambition. It stalls when knowledge is scattered, the right people cannot find each other, and good plans never reach the ground. TUMI closes these gaps.
    01

    Knowledge & Capacity

    Build knowledge and capacity
Research, guides, data and open courses — and the training and technical advice that turn them into something a team can use on Monday. Practical workshops, peer exchange between cities facing the same problem, and long-term advisory for ministries and transport authorities building the capacity to plan, procure and run sustainable transport themselves.
    02

    Connection & Investment

    Connect people, partners and finance
Introductions that would otherwise take years: to the eleven partners, to cities that have already solved the problem, and to the financiers who can fund the plan. TUMI prepares projects to the point where they are investable, and brings public and private money to the table beside them.
    03

    Implementation

    Enable implementation and visible impact
Support that does not stop at the plan. Project preparation, procurement advice, funding for cities to try things under real conditions, and a partner who stays engaged from the first workshop to the day the line opens — together with the evidence to show what worked and what did not.
„For the next ten years, I wish TUMI keeps pushing boundaries: for more capacitated changemakers, more women leading, and more cities transformed.“
